Reflection journal --- Leadership Development Camp
The activities of Redbird program last year were really
exciting and unforgettable. From the Struggle for Survival to the voluntary
work at Crossroads foundation, from the chocolate tasting workshop to the Cross
Cultural Experiential Workshop, however, among all the fabulous activities, it
is the Leadership Training Camp that left me the deepest impression, during
which, we not only gained a lot of valuable experiences, but also perceived
some leadership skills as well as some deeper understanding of ourselves.
The Leadership Training Camp provided us an opportunity to come across a good many fantastic things which enriched our life experiences. We learned to corporate to put up a tent, gather together to cook a big meal, fight against the fear about having a safari on one’s own at night and moreover, along with all the group members, take an arduous hiking. After this 3-day-long camp, all of our group members got a feeling of exhaustion; nevertheless, all of us were willing to look back to this memorable experience, with the reason that we all got various feelings as well as some findings on ourselves.
During the Leadership Training Camp, all of us obtained unique feelings and findings and I also learned a significant leadership skill ------ trust. In my point of view, this camp managed to build up the ability of trust for us. First, in the group game “free falling”, one of us was supposed to close his eye and try to have a free falling to his partner. Only trust could give him courage to finish this task in the dark. Second, during the night safari, we were forced to trust the organizer who told us there would be no danger on the road. Furthermore, as a leader of the hiking on the second day, it was the trust towards our group members that allowed me to pay fully attention on finding the way instead of worrying about the speed as well as other less-important things.
There is no doubt that this 3-day-long camp is playing an important role in my life. The skill of trust really matters a lot in my social life. Nowadays, every time I am playing the role as a leader in a special group or a student society, I can recall the experiences on the camp and use the ability of trust very well. The camp is changing my life.
