Crossroads Foundation
service learning trip
The service learning trip on that afternoon with 3 of my friends, in the crossroads foundation really left a deep impression on me no matter how long time passed. We devoted ourselves to the voluntary work and finally achieved big progress.
The voluntary work on that afternoon is easy but meaningful. We are assigned to do some packaging work --- packing some projectors, which would be given away to the poor kids in Cambodia. 4 of us got into work really fast with the reason that none of us had ever done such kind of work before. We collected some empty boxes from storage, covered the projectors with those boxes, cut some tapes and used the tapes to seal the boxes. Finally 2 of us helped the coordinator to carry the packaged projectors to place them on a truck, which would then transport these projectors to the harbor.
4 freshmen in terms of voluntary work felt excited at first with this kind of job, we did our best to clean the projectors and seal them perfectly, with sweat and laugh. However, packing and sealing again and again seemed to be boring 1 hour later. 4 of us lost part of our enthusiasm and paused our work. However, the coordinator didn’t. She kept smiling and thanking us during the whole afternoon, smiling because of the kids in Cambodia, smiling because the poor kids in Cambodia would soon use the projectors. Her behavior deeply moved us, stimulating us to keep working and finally we finished our task, tired but happy.
This service learning trip actually taught me 2 lessons in different aspects. First, voluntary work not only need willingness, but also need interest. We register for the voluntary work because we are willing to help the poor kids; we register for the voluntary work actively because we are interested in helping them. Second, team work needs enthusiasm. Enthusiasm from one person can stimulate others to work harder; enthusiasm from the whole team can bring them success. There is little doubt that these two lessons can enrich my life experience and I must say that this activity is worthy to take part in.
